When to Book a Newborn Photography Session in Brighouse for New Parents

Congratulations! Welcoming a newborn into your lives is the biggest life changing moment you'll ever go through, and one that's worth celebrating!

As an expert photographer specialising in newborn photography based in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, I understand the importance of capturing these precious moments. In this blog post, I will guide you through the process and explain why timing is crucial when it comes to booking a newborn photography session. So, let's dive in and ensure that your little one's earliest memories are beautifully preserved.

When is the best time to bring a baby for newborn photos?

Newborns change and grow so fast during their first few weeks of life and feeding demands increase as your energy and sleep schedule decreases! It is recommended to schedule your newborn photography session as early as you can, ideally within the first 5 to 14 days after birth, but I welcome babies up to 6 weeks for a newborn session. And 6-12 weeks for my older baby sessions.

During this time, babies tend to sleep deeply, curl up naturally, and retain that "freshly newborn" look, making it ideal for capturing those tiny details and that glow of falling in love with your new son or daughter as you navigate holding them and learning their cues.

However there are also some down sides to when they're tiny. Mum's may need a little more care if your birth has been tricky or baby experiences any issues, or if you're establishing a breastfeeding routine. There are many factors we just won't know until baby arrives. While I would love to see you and your baby as early as possible, I know this isn't always possible so your sessions can easily be moved if you need more time. I only ever book a certain amount of sessions per month, which allows for a little bit of wiggle room if needed. Booking early ensures your family will take priority at my studio.

When should you book your Newborn Photography Session?

Flexibility is Key: As a new parent, you might be wondering if it's possible to plan anything during those early weeks of adjustment and sleepless nights. However, booking your newborn photography session in advance ensures that you secure a spot within that precious window of opportunity.

I recommend booking after your 20 week scan. When you book with me, your provisionally secure a date around 7-10 days after your due date. It is only when baby arrives, that we lock in a date. This gives you plenty of time to wait for baby to arrive, and to see how your body is feeling. If baby arrives earlier or later than planned, or you need more time, we will then move your session to ensure you are feeling up for photos and the experience will be as relaxing as possible. Professional photographers understand the unpredictable nature of newborns and are flexible in rescheduling if necessary, taking into account the ever-changing needs of both baby and parents, I always allow enough space during each month for a little movement of babies arriving. I've given birth twice, and believe me, I know what it can be like so please don't ever put pressure on yourself to stick your booking date, it's so easy for me to move.
